When you start out using any powerful tool, it’s best to start slowly & learn quickly. It doesn’t matter if your using a chainsaw or Google AdWords – you really need to know what you’re doing & be very careful.
The best way to start slowly with Google AdWords is to advertise just in your local area. That might be your city, your state or even your entire country. But it’s probably not ‘all English speaking countries’ which is what far too many new advertisers choose.
Why is this? Well unlike Mr Sinatra, we’re not worried about making it in New York to prove we can make it anywhere. We need to prove we can make AdWords work locally, then we can worry about taking on the rest of the world.
So if you’re having problems with your AdWords account, do yourself a favour: scale down those global-domination ambitions just a touch. Log into your account, choose campaign settings & have a look at where your ads are currently running. Narrow down the scope & spend that limited budget just in your local area. Then once you’ve mastered the skills to get a consistently high ROI, then expand your reach.
Once you do that, install this fantastic plugin from RedFly (firefox only). It lets you see the ads running in any country you choose with a couple of clicks. Very handy.
Tomorrow I’ll show you a very cool new tool from Google so you can see the ads running in any location (ie just in your state, not the entire country). Stay tuned… and until then, go easy with that chainsaw

Hey Mike, great article. Many thanks for the mention too. Just an FYI, the new version of the extension lets you view ads per state, zipcode and city. Hope that helps.
PS: you have a new subscriber.
the redflymarketing.com website has not been working all day today. Any ideas?
